The Joint Working Group 3.2 of the International Association of Geodesy aims at providing contrasted vertical land motion estimates at tide gauges commonly used for long-term sea-level change and for calibration/validation of satellite altimeters.

Here we present the compilation of available global vertical land motion estimates from GPS and DORIS techniques. In particular, eight individual and five combined vertical velocity fields have been merged and compared. The repeatability of the vertical land motion estimates varies among the stations between 0.1 mm/yr and more than 1 mm/yr. The differences in the estimated vertical land motion owe to a mixture of different error sources including different reference frames and realizations, discontinuity sets and series lengths. These differences deserve further analysis and they can preventively flag extremely uncertain land motion estimates at some locations potentially used for validation of altimeter bias drifts.
